Now that we are less than 2 months away from the start of the rally we thought it would be a good time to talk more about why we wanted to do this crazy road trip. We've therefore given the word to Ed:
In 2016 I got a call from my friend Matt. Focusing mainly on how what he said made me feel, he told me his osteonecrosis was a misdiagnosis; he had osteosarcoma, a kind of bone cancer.
Over the next few months, he became bed bound as the cancer destroyed his femur and hip. Late in the summer, he was given 9 months to live and he did some thinking. Matt decided that if he had a short time left he wasn't going to spend it in a hospital bed.
He decided to take a big risk and have his leg and some of his hip amputated. This was to enable him to explore; away from his hospital bed. In the end, Matt died before the 9 months, in Oxford, from complications relating to his cancer.
Now I think I know the importance of adventure to the spirit. I decided to learn that lesson and challenge myself to go on the rally and get away from comfortable things.
On that note and on the brighter side, I got my Mongolian Visa today! So everything is going well on the visa and customs side, only waiting for my Iranian visa.
Bear love
